Yes, you can make changes to a contract before it has been signed. In fact, its pretty easy and isnt technically an amendment at all its just part of negotiating the terms, or redlining.
Documents do not need to contain initials, although the option is always there if you want to guarantee some extra security for those important agreements. As someone whos creating a contract, you may consider initialling a few pages or all of them.
This means a signature could be written to capture the full name of a person. On the other hand, initials are just a letter from a name usually the first letter of a name.
Any modifications that are made to a contract must be agreed upon by all of the involved parties, just as the initial contract needs to be agreed upon by all parties. Assuming that all parties are in agreement, then the modifications will be enforceable by law, just as the original contract itself would be.
The initial is usually affixed/made at the bottom of the page, in the lower right-hand corner.
It is not illegal to alter a contract once it has been signed. However, it must be materially changed, meaning that if an important part of the contract is altered by the change, it must be made by mutual consent of both parties.
You usually cannot cancel a contract, but there are times when you can. You can cancel some contracts within certain time limits. Some contracts must tell you about your right to cancel, how to cancel them, and where to send the cancellation notice.
All parties involved in the transaction may put their initials onto the contract but there may be instances where one or more parties did not do so. Nevertheless, this does not invalidate the contract.
