How do I submit letters of recommendation? Your letter writers must submit their letter electronically through the AMCAS Letter Writer Application or Interfolio. You do not review or submit your own letters of recommendation.
Getting a Great Letter of Recommendation Start Early. Professors are busy! Identify your recommenders. Current professors and doctors with whom you work or volunteer are your best choices. Be professional. Help them help you. Understand the process. Follow the instructions.
In Interfolio select AMCAS as your designation. Select the corresponding Individual Letter(s). You will then be asked for the AAMC ID and AMCAS Letter ID found on the AMCAS Letter Request Form for each Individual Letter. Complete the delivery.
If letters are submitted to AMCAS, you can have your writers submit them as early as May of your application year. The letters will be stored there for one year. This service is free, however, you cant send the letters to osteopathic schools.
Print the Letter Request Form from the Main Menu of the application from within the Letters of Evaluation section. The Letter Request Form is a PDF generated by you in the AMCAS application for your designated letter authors.
Some word processors or PDF editors will also allow you to digitally sign and associate this with some form of cryptographic signature. In short: sign your letter, but do it the easy and electronic way if you can.
Most medical schools require that letters of evaluation be submitted on letterhead and bear the authors signature.
How long does it take for AMCAS to process letters of evaluation? Letters sent through Interfolio can take up to 3 business days to be marked as received within the AMCAS application. Letters uploaded through the AMCAS Letter Writer Application are immediately marked as received.
