The REPLACE function in Excel replaces part of a text string with a different text string, useful for modifying variable text data. Its syntax is =REPLACE(oldtext, startnum, numchars, newtext). The function is particularly helpful in financial analysis to clean and adjust text data.
Use SUBSTITUTE when you want to replace specific text in a text string; use REPLACE when you want to replace any text that occurs in a specific location in a text string.
Using Find and Replace Formatting Click the Find Select button on the Home tab. Select Replace. Click the Options button. Click the Find what: Format button. Select the formatting you want to find. Click OK. Click the Replace with: Format button. Select the new formatting options you want to use.
How to use Replace in Excel Select the range of cells where you want to replace text or numbers. Press the Ctrl + H shortcut to open the Replace tab of the Excel Find and Replace dialog. In the Find what box type the value to search for, and in the Replace with box type the value to replace with.
=REPLACE(oldtext, startnum, numchars, newtext) oldtext is the cell containing the text you want to replace. startnum tells Excels where the text you want to replace starts within the cell. numchars is the number of characters you want to replace.
Replace text or numbers with the Find Replace Press Ctrl+H or go to Home Find Select Replace. In Find what, type the text or numbers you want to find. You can further define your search: In the Replace with box, enter the text or numbers you want to use to replace the search text. Select Replace or Replace All.
Step 1: Open your financial model or deal tracking sheet in Excel. Step 2: Press Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on a Mac) to open the Find and Replace dialog box. Step 3: In the Find what box, type an asterisk (*) to look for any text that is inside the comments. Step 4: Under the Look in; dropdown menu, select Comments.
On the Regex Tools pane, configure these settings: Select the source strings. Enter your pattern. Choose the Replace with option and type the replacement text in the box. To have the results as formulas, not values, select the Insert as a formula check box. Click the Replace button.
