LaTeX documents can be viewed and edited in any text editor, since theyre just plain text files. Notepad in Windows, Notepad++, and Vim and are some examples of text editor programs.
LaTeX will not allow you to create a new command that would overwrite an existing one. But there is a special command in case you explicitly want this: \renewcommand .
For texts where you want to do lots of search and replace, I would generally recommend you take the affected text part out into a temporary search and replace file, using \include{temp} . If you just want to search and replace in the text body, not the preamble, just take the text out to a different document like this.
Press Ctrl+F when you edit your document on Overleaf. This opens the search-and-replace dialogue window at the top right. To ensure that you only replace Soeren and not Soerensen, press the third button on the bottom of that window (it looks like , highlighted in pink in the screenshot).
Replacing characters in a string \usepackage{xstring} \newcommand{\specialtext}[1]{% \StrSubstitute{#1}{:}{\tab \hfill \break }[ \textbf{\myspecialtext}}
Try it! Select Replace or press Ctrl + H. In the Find what box, type the text you want to search for. Select Find Next to see where the text appears in your file. In the Replace with box, type the text you want. Select Replace to change the text or select Replace All to change all instances of this text in your file.
2 Answers. In Texmaker, you can use Replace All. You use hot key Ctrl + R. If youre willing and able to use LuaLaTeX, one could write a Lua function that performs the string replacement job on the fly.
Replace : CTrl+R. Goto line : Ctrl+G.
