A. As part of the 2022-2023 enacted New York State Budget, Governor Hochul and the State Legislature allocated $1.2 billion in funding to the NYS Healthcare Worker Bonus (HWB) program for the payment of bonuses for certain frontline healthcare workers as Part ZZ of Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2022.
Typically, the obligation to repay bonus compensation is triggered upon the employees termination of employment. Once the obligation is triggered, the employee will be required to repay the bonus compensation previously received, either in a lump-sum payment or in installments.
Be in an eligible title listed in SOS 367-w(2)(a)(i)-(iii). Receive an annual base salary of H$125,000 or less (excluding any bonus or overtime pay paid by the employer). Be employed by an eligible provider during the entire vesting period. Not be suspended or excluded from participation in the Medicaid program.
Workers who provide hands-on care earning less than $125,000 annually are eligible to receive up to $3,000 in bonuses from their employers. Qualified employees must continuously work at the same healthcare facility for the duration of at least six months.
The state would distribute the funds to health care employers, and the employers distribute the a specific bonus amount to eligible employees within 30 days.
