Below, you can find a list of five sections to complete on a new starter checklist, which is correct as of February 2022: Employee personal details. In the first six questions of the new starter checklist, the employee enters their personal information. Employment start date. Employee statement. Student loans. Declaration.
Statement A of the Starter Checklist is likely to be the most appropriate. This will give you full unused personal allowances from the beginning of the tax year to set against your UK income for the remainder of the tax year.
Its very common for candidates to start a new job and not be able to provide a P45 for some reason. If you dont give your new employer your P45, you may be placed on an emergency tax code and end up paying too much tax. However, this will resolve itself relatively quickly, and you will get a rebate.
Each employees file should include their: full name, address and contact details. emergency contact details. a signed copy of their employment contract. tax details. preferred payment method and details, for example internet banking. any other important information about them.
You only need a starter checklist from your employee to work out their tax code if either: they do not have a P45. they left their last job before 6 April 2022.
Category C = code BR which means you pay tax at the basic rate, currently 20%, on all of your wages. This code should give the correct result if you are a BR taxpayer and all of your personal allowance for the year is being fully used against earnings from your other employment.
