While a contract does not have to be dated in order to be valid and enforceable, it is a good idea to do so. Dating a contract will help you to positively identify it later if you need to and will help you place it in its proper chronological context.
The effective date marks the point from which parties need to begin to fulfill their obligations under the contract, and it can be a date in either the past, present, or future, depending on what the parties to the contract agree.
Legally, a date is not required; if there is an expected timeline but a listed date is not on the contract, it is not considered enforceable. If the contract is undated but is marked as for consideration, it is still valid. For consideration shows that each party has something to offer the other.

How to write a signature Decide what you want your signature to convey. Analyze the letters in your name. Determine what parts of your name you want to include. Experiment with different styles. Think outside of the box. Choose your favorite signature.
Effective date versus execution date In other words, contracts become enforceable on the effective date. This date cannot precede the execution date, meaning a contract cannot be in effect until after all parties sign it. Sometimes an effective date is a fixed date that is explicitly stated.
As long as it adequately records the intent of the parties involved in a contractual agreement, its considered a valid signature. Usually this mark is made by a pen, but not necessarily. The signature can be made by anything that marks the paper.
When Does a Contract Take Effect? If there is no effective date listed in the contract, it becomes active when signed. If the person who signed it did not date the signature, the contract becomes active when the agreement leaves his or her hands.
