So anytime an employee needs an extended time off can have a really docHub impact on the business. So when you have employees who are pregnant and getting ready to have their child and theyre asking for four, six, eight weeks off I understand, as a manager, youre thinking, Yikes. How am I going to handle this? So should I give them the time off? Do I need to ask them to take less time off? Or do I need to just find somebody else to fill that seat? Well, in Washington State, you are obligated as an employer to give a pregnant employee the time off that they need when theyre having that child. Theyre covered by a very specific Washington State law that allows them to take generally six to eight weeks off. That said, a doctor can determine if that employee requires more time off. So always defer to what the doctors certification is providing you. Now lets take this just a step further. Lets say you have an employee thats worked for you for 12 months not just six months.
