Update a cross-reference Click in the body section of your document (i.e. not the header or footer). Press Ctrl-A to select all paragraphs. Press F9 to update all cross-references.
Insert the cross-reference In the document, type the text that begins the cross-reference. On the Insert tab, click Cross-reference. In the Reference type box, click the drop-down list to pick what you want to link to. In the Insert reference to box, click the information you want inserted in the document.
In a document you have open, right-click a field, such as a table of contents, a page number, or a cross-reference, and click Update Field. Notes: If youre updating a table of contents, in the Update Table of Contents dialog box, select whether you want to update page numbers only or the entire table.
Press the F9 key, which updates all selected fields. Word updates all of the cross-references in the document at once.
Use the Edit Cross-Reference Format dialog to create, edit, or delete cross-reference formats in the current document. To display the Edit Cross-Reference Format dialog double-click on an existing cross-reference in a document and click on Edit Format in the Cross-Reference dialog.
The cross-referenced footnotes do not self-adjust every time you add or delete a footnote between the references. In order to update the cross-references, place your cursor in a footnote and select the text of all footnotes by pressing Ctrl A. Once the footnote text is selected, press F9.
You can update cross-references manually by pressing Ctrl + A to select all and then pressing F9. Cross-references will also be updated when you switch to Print Preview or when you print (if the Word option Update fields before printing is turned on).
5) To update all of the citations (i.e., all of the fields), click on Ctrl and A (which selects the entire document). Then click on F9 which will update all of the fields. You can also right click on any one citation and select the option to update the field, if you only wish to update that one citation.
Just insert the switch # 0.0 in the cross referencing field. It is that simple! In Word 2016 it worked for me if I: Step 1: Insert caption and click Exclude Label from caption Step 2: Insert cross-reference to that figure. Step 3: In the line above the figure number type in Figure then hit delete.
Update a cross-reference After setting up your document with cross-references, you need to update those cross-references before finalising the document. Click in the body section of your document (i.e. not the header or footer). Press Ctrl-A to select all paragraphs. Press F9 to update all cross-references.
