Heres an overview: Select a range. Go to the Home section, and click Conditional Formatting. Select the rule (and, if you want, customize the condition). Select the formatting style. Click OK.

Select the cells that you want to conditionally format. On the Home tab, in the Style group, click the arrow next to Conditional Formatting, click Icon Set, and then select an icon set.
Go to Home Conditional Formatting - New Rule (Keyboard Shortcut Alt + O + D). In the New Formatting Rule dialogue box, select the option Use a formula to determine which cells to format. Set the format that you want to apply to the cells that are blank or have errors.
On the HOME tab, in the Styles group, click the arrow next to Conditional Formatting, and then click Manage Rules. The list of conditional formatting rules are displayed for the current selection including the rule type, the format, the range of cells the rule applies to, and the Stop If True setting.
