one thing that a lot of people struggle with when they start circling with their students is particularly when I was at my old campus one thing that teachers struggled with was they would circle with the students and be like okay there they didnt change like their behavior hasnt changed the circle wasnt intended to change the behavior thats one of the biggest misconceptions about a circle the circle is not going to change who a person is or how they behave thats not what a circle is and if students arent behaving in a circle its not the circle its the classroom management thats keeping the circle from being able to be facilitated theres nothing that replaces good classroom management the only thing you just like if you are delivering instruction there has to be procedures and rules in place and just like if youre doing a circle there have to be guidelines procedures in place that keep students behaving in the manner that we expect them to so you have to still have classroom

What are the healing circle agreements? We treat each other with kindness and respect. We listen with compassion and curiosity. We honor each others unique ways to healing and dont presume to advise or fix or try to save each other.
Healing Circles allow people to share in healing, benefiting from the collective energy of the group, while supporting each individual to grow and strengthen themselves. Traditionally used in First Nations ceremonies, they brought people together in the spirit of healing, friendship, and community.
Agreement Circles provide a kinesthetic way to activate thinking and engage students in academic argumentation. Students listen to statements made by the teacher and decide whether they agree or disagree.
What takes place in a basic healing circle is: Welcome and transition into circle: stepping away from what youve been doing, taking a deep breath, and committing yourself to being fully in the circle. Checking in: sharing how your particular journey is going. Learning: harvesting the collective wisdom of the group.
Healing circles are often called hocokah in the Lakota language, which means a sacred circle and is also the word for altar. The hocokah consists of people who sit together in a talking circle, in prayer, in ceremony, and are committed to helping one another and to each others healing.
The key principles of the Circle Process are to: honor the presence and dignity and value the contribution of every participant; emphasize the connectedness among people; support emotional and spiritual expression; and give equal voice to all. Confidentiality is also key, to ensure openness and emotional safety.
