okay for this video i wanted to quickly cover a request for a refund of fica taxes so fica taxes are payroll taxes withheld from your wages and so in certain cases in the u.s you might be exempt from fica taxes and so if you have them withheld from your paycheck you can file a refund claim to get those back so ive got one slide in front of us here with some of the rules and then an example uh form 843 which is the filing thats required in order to get this refund so generally if you are living and working in the u.s for a us-based employer your wages are going to be subject to federal payroll tax that is the baseline rule that applies to 99 of people that are living and working in the united states um the payroll tax is assessed under the um federal insurance contributions act thats where we get fica from and the tax rates um as of the end of 2021 um and going forward foreseeably here is going to be 6.2 percent um of social security tax and then a 1.45 medicare tax um these are asse

Its possible to change or update your direct deposit information with the IRS for your tax refund; its just a matter of if your return has been completely filed already. If you havent filed your return, or if the IRS rejected your return, you can likely make adjustments using your tax software or on your tax form.
If it hasnt been posted yet, you can contact the IRS directly at 800-829-1040 and ask to stop the direct deposit. If you entered a valid (but incorrect) account number that doesnt belong to you, theres usually nothing to worry about. Most banks wont deposit tax refunds into accounts where the names dont match.
I lost my refund check. How do I get a new one? If you lost your refund check, you should initiate a refund trace: Use Wheres My Refund, call us at 800-829-1954 and use the automated system, or speak with an agent by calling 800-829-1040 (see telephone assistance for hours of operation).
If your original refund check was cashed, youll receive a claim package within six weeks to complete and return to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service to process your claim. If the Bureau of the Fiscal Service determines the check was forged, it will issue a replacement refund check and notify the IRS.
You can direct your refund to any of your checking or savings accounts with a U.S. financial institution as long as your financial institution accepts direct deposits for that type of account and you provide valid routing and account numbers.
If the paper check hasnt been cashed, the IRS will cancel the original check and issue a replacement check, which you should receive within six to eight weeks.
If you need to make a change or adjustment on a return already filed, you can file an amended return. Use Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, and follow the instructions.
Why am I receiving a paper check? The IRS limits the number of direct deposit refunds to the same bank account or on the same pre-paid debit card. Also, we cant deposit any part of a tax refund to an account that doesnt belong to you.
If changes are needed, the only option is to cancel the payment and choose another payment method. Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
If the IRS has accepted your return already, you wont be able to change your bank and routing number for your tax refund. You can only request that the IRS issue you a check and thats only if the return has not yet been processed.
