You have a copyright in your artwork as soon as it has been created and fixed in a tangible object. It does not need to be registered with the copyright office or have a copyright notice attached to receive copyright protection. A copyright lasts for the life of the artist, plus 70 years after the artists death.
To register your work with the Copyright Office, you must submit an application, the appropriate filing fee, and a copy of the work to be registered. The general rule is that a separate application for registration should be submitted for each work together with the a separate filing fee and deposit copy.
Like anything else that can be copyrighted, artwork is protected by copyright when the art is affixed in a tangible form (such as a painting, sculpture, or drawing). You have to register your copyright with the US Copyright Office if you want to be able to take infringers to court and be awarded damages.
The steps for making a license agreement are as follows: Download a template for a licensing agreement. Choose your role as the licensor or licensee. Define the license(s) in the agreement. Decide whether the license is exclusive or not. Settle the matter of fees and payment schedule. Add a renewal date and rules.
Look for a watermark A watermark on an image is a clear sign that the image is copyrighted. Often, the watermark will contain text that indicates the name or company to whom the image belongs: do some googling and find out.
Copyright is a bundle of rights that initially belongs to the author(s) who create a work. Those bundle of rights include the exclusive right to: reproduce the work; distribute the work, publicly display the work; and prepare derivate works based on the original work.
