[Music] right so I have two layers I have a layer in a table that I need to join and Im joining them based on a key field but they dont match up yet I need to run a find in her place to make them match so open up the attribute table and run a field calculation so look at the key field and it has an extra decimal place that we want to remove so that point zero on each of the township and ranges so well start the editor and were going to be modifying the key field and then you can either open up the expression editor here or the field calculator up here and well just type it in the box so for this case Ill just keep in the box since its simple so well type in replace and then open parenthesis and then first youll want to select the field youre gonna be replacing values on and well do that within quotation marks so quotation mark he thats a field key he and then comma and then what were gonna be replacing so single quotation marks since were replacing the string value instea

Select a table. Select Click to Add Calculated Field, and then select a data type. Enter a calculation for the field, and then click OK. Type the expression yourself, or select expression elements, fields, and values to put them into the expression edit field.
On the Analyze tab, in the Calculations group, click Fields, Items, Sets, and then click Calculated Field. In the Name box, type a name for the field. In the Formula box, enter the formula for the field. To use the data from another field in the formula, click the field in the Fields box, and then click Insert Field.
To add a reference line: Drag Reference Line from the Analytics pane into the view. The Line option is already selected at the top of the dialog box. Select a continuous field from the Value field to use as the basis for your reference line. Select an aggregation. Select how you want to label the line:
Under Parameters, right-click the parameter and select Show Parameter Control. From the Data pane, drag the calculated fields you created to the Columns and Rows shelves. From the Data pane, drag a measure to the view. In this example, Sales is placed on Label on the Marks card.
Go to the sheet tab and select Data Replace Data Source. Note: You must have at least one field in the view to make the Replace Data Source option available. In the Replace Data Source dialog box, select the Current data source and the Replacement data source. When finished, click OK.
To add a Calculated Field using the Report Manager: Open the Report Manager. Select a Report, right-click, and then select Edit Report Properties. Click Calculated Fields. Follow these steps: Click Add. Specify a Name for the Calculated Field. Note that names cannot contain spaces.
Right click on any dimension, measure or parameter in the Data pane and you will see the Replace References option. This will allow you to select a field that will replace any reference to the chosen column across your work.
Conveniently, Tableau has an option called Replace References that allows you to swap one field out for another all in one shot. In this example, I demonstrate what happens when the data source changes. You could also apply this method when you simply want to swap out all existences of one field for another.
