XPS stands for XML Paper Specification. Thats because it contains page layout information written in the XML page description language. Essentially, this type of language describes the structure and content of a document, including its layout and appearance, making it suited for printing for example.
Ahead of CES 2024, Dell revealed that it will retire the Dell XPS 15 and Dell XPS 17, and that it will replace the popular laptops with the Dell XPS 14 and Dell XPS 16.
This year Dell moved to soldered RAM for its XPS 14 and 16, writes Digital Trends, which makes it impossible to upgrade, or even repair. This was a big change from the past, where the XPS 15 and 17 were both celebrated for their upgradability. Of course, Dell isnt the first to make the transition.
In summary. XPS laptops have a higher build quality (and more futuristic design), better audio, more camera features, OLED display options, and strong performance hardware (including more powerful discrete GPUs). However, they are much more expensive than Inspiron laptops.
The main difference is that the XPS 13 is a more compact ultraportable designed for light productivity tasks, while the XPS 15 is a larger mobile workstation with a much more powerful H-series CPU and NVIDIA discrete GPU options. While neither is great regarding ports, the XPS 15 has one more USB-C than the XPS 13.
Dell XPS (eXtreme Performance System) is a line of consumer-oriented laptop and desktop computers manufactured by Dell since 1993.
Equipped with the latest processors, up to UHD+ displays, and components that deliver faster time to productivity, XPS devices are the ultimate high-performance laptop for graphic-intensive applications.
