Using Microsoft 365 admin center Log in to the Microsoft 365 admin center. Navigate to Settings Org Settings Modern Authentication. Verify Turn on modern authentication for Outlook 2013 for Windows and later (recommended) is checked. If not, select the checkbox.
Modern authentication is a authentication method of identity management that offers more secure user authentication and authorization than possible with basic Authentication. Sign in to Microsoft 365 admin center. Expand Settings and click on Org settings. Click on Services in the top bar. Choose Modern authentication from the list.
Disable basic authentication In the Azure portal, search for and select App Services, and then select your app. In the apps left menu, select Configuration General settings. For SCM Basic Auth Publishing Credentials or FTP Basic Auth Publishing Credentials, select Off, then select Save.
From the Exchange Admin Center (EAC) Open the EAC and navigate to Servers Virtual Directories. Select the server that you wish to Edit using the dropdown menu. Select the Autodiscover (Default Web Site) virtual directory and click Edit. Select Authentication, clear the Basic authentication check box and click Save.
To switch from Basic Authentication to Modern Authentication, please use the following steps: Log in to your Microsoft Azure portal () Select Microsoft Entra ID. Select App registrations. Select New Registration. Enter a name of your choice.
Go to and click Update Info under Security info Click Change next to Default sign-in method Click App based authentication - notification and then Confirm The new method will now be your default. Each time you sign in it will use this method.
In essence, authentication is the overall process of confirming identity, while login is the specific action taken to enter a system using authenticated credentials.
