Passengers can apply for this quota on IRCTCs main page while booking and select Lower Berth under the different options in the quota. Lower berths earmarked under senior citizen and womens quota in the respective classes by default will get allotted to them.
There is no option available online for updating the details entered on the ticket while booking. Once the ticket is booked and berth allotted, you cannot change it. There are some other ways though to manage it. You may cancel the current ticket and rebook it with the option to book berths only if your preferred choice of berths are available.
