Participants are hired at the EC-03 group and level (from $68,666 to $77,696) and after successfully completing two, 12-month assignments in different sectors within NRCan, graduate at the EC-05 level (from $88,618 to $101,999).
Employees are generally entitled to up to 37 weeks of unpaid leave in relation to a minor child, and 17 weeks in relation to an adult, to be taken in a 52-week period (and may requalify for subsequent 37 or 17 weeks of leave in subsequent 52-week periods).
If you do not take all of the 28 weeks of leave within the 52-week period, you will lose the remaining weeks. You can take separate, non-consecutive shorter periods of leaves (not to exceed the 28-week maximum) within the 52-week period if your family member has several episodes of a serious medical condition.
Eligible employees are entitled to take long-term leave for serious injury or illness for up to 17 weeks in a 52-week period. The leave must be taken in one continuous period unless the employer and employee agree to a different arrangement, or there are different terms set out under collective agreement.
Common reasons are childbirth, adoption, caring for an ill family member, serious health conditions or military leave. In cases such as these, employees may be entitled to leave by federal or state law.
Generally leave will be restricted to ten working days.
Special working arrangement Pre-retirement transition leave is a special working arrangement whereby eligible persons who are within two years of retirement have their workweek reduced by up to 40 per cent. For a full-time person, this represents up to two out of five working days.
