Marks and Numbers is an optional field used to identify different pieces of cargo so that there is no problem identifying them at the port, and they can be handed over to the correct parties without fail.
What is in a bill of lading? Typically, a bill of lading will include the names and addresses of the shipper (consignor) and the receiver (consignee), shipment date, quantity, exact weight, value, and freight classification.
Means, you can transfer the ownership of goods to another party by endorsing a Bill of Lading with proper documentation.
The number is always made up of 4 letters (the carriers code), followed by an 8, 10 or 12 digit code. An example of a bill of lading number would be: MSC17392833. Youre also going to need the shipping line name in order to track a bill of lading successfully.
The 1st page is what we all commonly refer to as the back of the B/L.. Sea Waybills issued by some carriers do not have these Terms and Conditions on the back (also known as blank back short form B/L)..
What does a bill of lading include? Names and addresses of both the shipper and recipient (often referred to in the document as the consignee). Scheduled pickup and dropoff dates. Purchase order numbers. The freights size, weight, and dimensions. Signature lines for all parties (shipper, carrier, receiver).
Typically, there are three bills of lading, one for the shipper, one for the consignee, and one for the banker, but there is no limit to the number of bills of lading issued. Addition bills of lading increase the risk of fraud, theft, or the unauthorized release of goods.
To order bill of lading is the one that consignee part of the bill of lading have been completed by writing to order only as can be seen on the below example. To order means that the bill of lading has been consigned to order of the shipper.
