If youre using Google sheets and you have a column of data like this one here, on left. If you look at it, it has leading and trailing spaces. Theres spaces before some of the letters or spaces after that you want to get rid of. Im going to show you steps to get that done. Sometimes its straightforward but later on down this column we have some that are more complicated. If its just a matter of getting rid of spaces that are actually someone hit the spacebar or they just came in with those characters in, it its pretty easy. Were going to look at this first value in the column and this is-. I hit F2 and that gets me into the cell. Im gonna hit the Escape key to go back. You could also click into the formula bar at the top but I think its easier to see if I do it by hitting F2. Im going to tap F2. You can see theres a trailing space and thats because the cursor isnt next to the H right now. I hit the left key. Itll go and get there but theres a space here and theres also

The solution here is to use the Clear formatting option, located in the Format Clear formatting menu item or its shortcut. You can also use the Clear formatting shortcut, which is Command-Backslash. Just select a portion, or all, of your existing document, and use either the menu option or keyboard shortcut.
Point your mouse to the condition that needs to be deleted and click the Remove icon. Conditional formatting will be cleared. If you dont remember the exact cell range you formatted, or if you want to get rid of formats as quickly as possible, then select the cell range and go to the Format menu - Clear formatting.
Clear Formatting in Google Sheets Select all the cells from which you want to remove the formatting. Click the Format option in the menu. Click on Clear formatting option.
So to clear formats in Google Sheets, (1) select the range. Then in the Ribbon, (2) go to Format, and (3) choose Clear Formatting. We can also use a shortcut (CTRL+/). As a result, all data formats are cleared in the range B2:D9.
To clear all contents, formats, and comments that are contained in the selected cells, click Clear All. To clear only the formats that are applied to the selected cells, click Clear Formats. To clear only the contents in the selected cells, leaving any formats and comments in place, click Clear Contents.
Format one or more cells Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app. Tap a cell, then drag the blue markers across nearby cells you want to select. Tap Format . In the Text tab, choose an option to format your text. Bold. In the Cell tab, choose an option to format your cell. Tap the sheet to save your changes.
To remove all formatting in Excel, just do the following: Select the cell or range of cells from which you want to clear formatting. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click the arrow next to the Clear button. Select the Clear Formats option.
On the Home tab, in the Font group, click the arrow next to Fill Color, and then click No Fill.
