Use Git to delete a Git tag To delete the Git tag from the local repo, run the git tag -d tag-name command where tag-name is the name of the Git tag you want to delete.
Git tags are commonly used to mark release points in a project, such as v1. 0 or v2. 0. Tagged Git releases can be easily distributed, making it easier for users to download and manage the code.
Well, if you have created a wrong tag or you need to recreate it for any reasons, GitHub Desktop will not allow you to do that. So you need to use console git tool to delete local and remote tags. This way local and remote tags will be deleted. You can also delete tag on GitHub site.
Deleting multiple tags git tag -d The above command will delete all the listed tags from your local Git repository. To achieve the same result in your remote repository, run: git push -d
Delete a protected tag On the left sidebar, select Search or go to and find your project. Select Code Tags. Next to the tag you want to delete, select Delete ( ). On the confirmation dialog, enter the tag name and select Yes, delete protected tag.
To delete a release, use the gh release delete subcommand. Replace tag with the tag of the release to delete. Use the -y flag to skip confirmation.
You can delete each tag from remote using git push origin -d :[TAG NAME] , e.g. git push origin -d :v2. 0.0-beta. 1 . You can delete tags locally using git tag -d [TAG NAME] , e.g. git tag -d v2.
