Internships, even short ones and unpaid ones, are a form of employment. They provide essential experience and should be included on your resume.
The students personal information is available for editing by the designated school official (DSO), when the student is in an Initial or Active status. DSOs are required to update this information in SEVIS within 21 days of the change.
OPT Employment Options You may only begin employment once you have the EAD in your possession and you have docHubed the start date on the card. Your job must be directly related to your academic field of study. Employment must be a minimum of 20 hours per week, paid or unpaid, to maintain legal F-1 OPT status.
Students are required to add their employer information in the SEVP Portal within 10 days from the start of employment.
The SEVP Portal is optional and not required by federal regulations. Students who choose to use the Portal to report information are still required to report that same information in My OIS.
