Supplemental Paid Sick Leave for COVID-19 (SPSL) Supplemental Paid Sick Leave for COVID-19 is a new law from 2021 that required employers to provide additional paid time off for certain COVID-19 reasons. A similar SPSL law for 2022 was in effect until December 31, 2022. Read more about 2022 SPSL.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, the Paid Leave for All Workers Act (2023 Pub. Act 102-1143, SB 208) will require at least one hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked, capped at 40 hours per 12-month period.
On March 13, 2023, Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker signed the Paid Leave for All Workers Act (the Act). The Act is the first statewide paid leave law in Illinois; it mandates paid leave for any reason for employees.
Basic Requirements to Avail Californias Paid Sick Leaves in 2023: Employees accrue at least one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Employees who are exempt from overtime requirements accrue paid sick leave based on a 40-hour workweek.
An amendment to the Employee Sick Leave Act mandates that employers who provide sick leave benefits must allow employees to take leave in the event of a family member illness on the same conditions which the employee can take leave for their own illness.
On 13 March 2023, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed the Paid Leave for All Workers Act (the Act),1 which guarantees that Illinois workers can earn or accrue up to 40 hours of paid leave per year that may be used for any reason. The Act becomes effective 1 January 2024.
Pritzker Signs Historic Legislation Guaranteeing 40 Hours of Paid Leave. CHICAGO Governor JB Pritzker today signed SB208 into law, making Illinois the third state in the nation, and the first in the Midwest, to mandate paid time off to be used for any reason.
The legislation provides employees with up to 40 hours of paid leave during a 12-month period, meaning approximately 1.5 million workers will begin earning paid time off starting in 2024, Pritzkers office said.
