In general, once a contract is signed it is effective. In most situations, you do not have a time period where you have a right to rescind a contract. There are a few exceptions to this general rule. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has a 3 day, or 72 hour, cooling off period rule.
Always put a contract amendment in writing and make sure both parties sign and date it. Reference the title of the contract, if applicable; its original parties; and original signing date, so that it is clear what document you are amending. Attach the amendment to the original contract.
Unless a contract contains a specific rescission clause that grants the right for a party to cancel the contract within a certain amount of time, a party cannot back out of a contract once they have agreed and signed it.
