There are some types of contract where the consumer doesnt have this right. (See Regulatory requirements for consumer contracts for more information).
Generally, businesses cannot charge you the full price for services that were not performed, such as a tire change or a haircut. They may charge a percentage of the service or a set fee for you canceling or being a no call, no show, but they cannot charge the full amount for services not rendered.
To cancel a contract, take the following steps: Make sure you send the cancellation notice within the time allowed. Always cancel in writing. You can use the cancellation form or send a letter. Keep a copy of your cancellation notice or letter. Send your cancellation notice by certified mail, return receipt.
Unless a contract contains a specific rescission clause that grants the right for a party to cancel the contract within a certain amount of time, a party cannot back out of a contract once they have agreed and signed it.

14 days is the absolute minimum cooling-off period that a seller must give you. Make sure you check the terms and conditions in case theyve given you more time to change your mind - many choose to do so.
How you handle a cancellation is just as important as your cancellation terms. Be firm but still friendly when discussing your contract or negotiating a different agreement. Keep things professional and check your emotions at the door. Your client may want to come back to you in the future.
