Jason recommends beginning with 1,000-grit sandpaper. Coarser paper works faster but you'll eat up the time saved when it comes time to eliminate the sanding scratches. Finer paper, say 1,500, leaves finer sanding marks that are easier to remove but the job takes a lot longer. 5.
1,000 grit is used to completely remove the 600 grit scratches. Dry guide coat is required between these two steps. True Blox wet sanding blocks can also be used in this step. The hard block helps ensure the 600 grit is completely sanded.
Super-fine (400-, 500- and 600-grit): Use this for polishing finishes on wood and metal, and to polish bare metal. It comes on waterproof sheets to allow for wet-sanding. Ultra-fine (800-, 1,000-grit and beyond): Use this grade for ultra-smooth polishing of wood and metal finishes and bare metal.
You need a compound to buff this out, compound buffs out scratches in the paint like 800-grit but you don't wanna buff over 800-grit since it's way too coarse. I'd recommend that you start buffing with at least 1500-grit or 2000-grit if you're doing a black paint job or darker colors.
The best way to get rid of these marks is to sand with the next grit up. If I started with 40 grit sandpaper, then I'd want to sand again with 60 grit sandpaper. Then 80. Then 120.
Small scratches can usually be rubbed out with polishing compound. The rule of thumb is that if your fingernail doesn't catch on the scratch, it's just a superficial clear coat scratch that can be smoothed out and made invisible.

With sandpaper because how are you going to be able to see that scratch pattern compared to what the buffer is putting okay you know it is ironic. I just shot this video.
To remove scuff marks from shoes, combine 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda and enough warm water to create an evenly consistent paste. Apply the paste directly to the scuff marks. Using a cloth, polish the shoes and remove the excess paste with a second clean, damp cloth.
Wet one piece of 600 grit sandpaper - run it over the scratched area in a circular motion and repeat with a dry piece of 600 grit sandpaper too. Rub with both wet and dry sandpapers for around 3 to 3 minutes. Don't worry if your acrylic looks more frosty or scratched - this will go away during the process.
The DIY test To determine if you can do the job at home, run a fingernail very gently across the area with the scratch. If your nail passes over the scratch without any real resistance, you can fix the issue at home. If your fingernail catches inside the scratch, it may be too deep to repair without professional help.
