You can remove a listed driver from your car insurance policy if they no longer live with you and no longer drive your vehicle. If you have a child away at college or who moves out temporarily, its a good idea to keep them on your policy.
You just have to contact your car insurance company, either online or by phone, and tell them that you need to remove a driver from your policy. You may need to provide proof that your child either has a new car insurance policy or no longer lives with you in order to have them removed.
First, your parents insurance wont be affected until the next renewal. Thats usually when your insurance company will pull your Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) which will show your ticket. Second, your parents can drop you from the policy if theyre the named insured (i.e., the people who created the policy).
Removing your child (or any named insured) from your policy is a simple process, as long as youre the policyholder. You just have to contact your car insurance company, either online or by phone, and tell them that you need to remove a driver from your policy.
Many auto insurance companies will allow you to remove a child who has left for college as long as the school theyre attending is over 100 miles away. When the school is less than 100 miles, auto insurers think there is a good possibility that your child may return home on a fairly frequent basis and use your car.
To remove someone from your policy you will likely need proof of new insurance, proof of new residence, proof of death, or a signed removal request. Excluding a driver means they are not allowed to drive any of the cars on your insurance policy, even in an emergency.
To exclude a driver from your insurance policy, contact your auto insurance company. You may have to fill out and sign a driver exclusion form. However, be aware that the rules for excluding drivers vary by insurer, and not all states allow for excluded drivers.
Can you remove someone from your insurance at any time? If a listed driver on your policy moves out of your residence, you can generally remove them from your auto policy. Depending on the insurer, you may need to provide proof that they no longer live with you.
