To eliminate the Company field requirement on Leads Go to Setup | Customize | Leads | Page Layouts. Click Edit next to the Page Layout name. Click on the wrench icon for the Company field. Deselect the Required checkbox and click OK. Save the Layout.
When creating a new Lead a message is generated stating a Company Name is required. All Leads require a Company Name which will be the name of the Company the Lead is part of.
Why Use Leads? Creating leads is an excellent feature of Salesforce for one specific reason: It prevents bad data from entering your system and clogging up your marketing and sales initiatives. Furthermore, leads make reporting easier, so you can better assess the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns.
It is not always necessary to create an opportunity when converting a lead. The default record type for the user performing the lead conversion is selected automatically for records created in the conversion process. Once a lead is converted it cannot be reverted to an unconverted state.

System fields are those that come out-of-the-box in Raisers Edge NXT versus custom fields or fields created with the API.System Fields Under System fields, select Edit from the fields menu. To make the system field required, check Required?. Select Save.
You will want to click on the Create transition and select Validator link. Find the Validator that requires the field, open and ensure it is the Approver field then remove it.
