What are memo lines? They are predefined lines that can be selected from a list of values when raising invoices and credit/debit memos. If required this information can be amended or added to at this stage.
Add a memo (optional, bottom left hand corner): The memo is for unofficial reference only and doesnt affect whether or not the check can be cashed or not. You can use it to remind yourself of what the payment was for, or you can also use that space to tell the payee more details about the payment.
Contractors ask if they can simply cross out the offending notation and then deposit the checks. The answer to each question is an emphatic NO. Contractors should not deposit these checks, whether they cross out the notations or not.
Filling out the line that says Memo is optional, but helpful for knowing why you wrote the check. If you are paying a check for a monthly electric bill or rent, you can write Electric Bill or Monthly Rent in the memo area.
Is this correct? If your bank credited your account for a check that was later returned unpaid for insufficient funds, the bank can reverse the funds and may charge a fee. As the payee, you must pursue the maker of the check if you wish to seek reimbursement.
Ask the check writer if its safe to redeposit the bounced check. Or, you can contact the bank on which the check is drawn to see if funds were added in the account to cover the payment. Seek legal action. If you still havent received payment, then you may need to take the check writer to court.
Step 5: Write a memo Filling out the line that says Memo is optional, but helpful for knowing why you wrote the check. If you are paying a check for a monthly electric bill or rent, you can write Electric Bill or Monthly Rent in the memo area.
The payers information should be easy to read for both the payee and the bank teller. Take up as much space as possible. Dont leave any blank space on the written lines. This prevents people from adding more money or changing important information.
