Often when an electrical wire or cable has been cut or damaged it will cause the main electrical power of the home to stop working. The main power of the home is typically protected my a main Circuit Breaker or Fuses, depending on the age of the home and the home electrical panel.
The customer/owner is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing all equipment beyond theservice connection point except for the electric meter. If you receive overhead electric service, your electric system con- sists of the following: 1. Electric Lines that run from the utility pole to your residence.
It is easy to tell power lines apart from these types of lines - power lines are always higher up on the pole, they always have insulators, and they do not touch other lines. Cable and telephone lines are located further down the pole and are directly attached to power poles without insulators.
Every home is connected to the electrical grid through some sort of fuse box or circuit breaker as shown in figure 1.
You see them all the time, theyre attached to the side of your house, yet you may never think about them. They are electric service drops. Without the service drop, your house has no electricity. The service drop is the single key place that funnels all of the electricity into your home.
Exposure to low-level electromagnetic fields has been studied extensively, and there is no evidence that it is harmful to human health, ing to the World Health Organization.
Never touch a downed power line. If you see a downed power line, contact your local utility immediately. Dont touch the line or anything that is in contact with it. Dont attempt to move the line. Keep others away, and consider every wire on the ground to be energized and dangerous.
Misconception #2: Power lines are insulated, so theyre safe to touch. This is a common misconception that many people have about power lines. Power lines are not insulated and you should always avoid contact with them. It is quite possible for people to get electrocuted if you touch power lines.
