Will I be able to see my recommendation letters? You can, but you shouldnt. In other words, you should always waive your right to read your letters. Otherwise, medical schools wont take your letters seriously.
Your letter writers must submit their letter on your behalf. The AMCAS Letter Service enables letter writers to send all letters to AMCAS directly rather than individually to each school. AMCAS will accept letters of evaluation and distribute them to participating medical schools electronically.
AMCAS does not need your letters of evaluation to verify your application. Therefore, you may submit your application even if your letters have not yet arrived at AMCAS. Your application and letters will be made available to medical schools after your application is verified.
On average, these letters tend to be approximately three double-spaced pages in length. Any more than that is simply too much, considering that each applicant submits at least three letters of recommendation and that medical schools receive on average 5,000 applications each year.
Most medical schools require that letters of evaluation be submitted on letterhead and bear the authors signature.
Give them at least 1 month prior to the due date - if you plan to submit your AMCAS application in the first week of June, ask them for the letter no later than May 1.
If letters are submitted to AMCAS, you can have your writers submit them as early as May of your application year. The letters will be stored there for one year.
Letters of evaluation (although please note that you can only make additions of up to 10 letters, and you must notify AMCAS if you have a letter you wish to no longer be sent to medical schools; you cannot delete letters of evaluation from your application).
