Hi. Im Ryan with Healing Headstones. Im going to walk you through how I scrape, scrub, and deep clean moss-covered headstones. I start by assessing the stone and make sure, especially if its older, if it can handle a deep clean. The dirtiest parts are the very base at the ground or also deep in the letters. The letters seem to hold on to the most dirt and grime because theyre cut into the stone. Most of the newer stones are made of either marble or granite. They have more of a glossy finish. The stones before the 20s, they dont have, if they did have gloss, its not there anymore. So I think thats why they get stained way worse and its way deeper into the stone. The first thing I do is spray down the stone with water to make the moss removal easier. I use a hand-pump sprayer to wet the headstones and also to spray them off. Ill start scraping the moss top to bottom, cause thats the easiest method. And you can see on the bottom layers of moss, it turns into almost a concrete-

In January 2022, following complaints, Find a Grave announced a new policy for memorials of recently deceased persons. Under the new policy, any photos or personal information, including obituaries, are hidden for three months.
Granite grave markers that are well maintained can last for up to 500 years! If you want a gravestone that will last for generations, bronze is the way to go. Its so durable that civilizations have fashioned tools from the copper alloy for thousands of years.
Only the person named on the Deed of Grant to a cemetery plot is entitled to put a headstone on a grave, provided that the cemetery allows it. If you do not own the Deed of Grant and place a grave marker on the site, the Registered Grave Owner is legally entitled to remove it or have it removed.
A headstone should only be removed from the graveyard by a community-based group or local official acting within the limits of local and state law or operating with the knowledge of the descendants of the deceased. In most circumstances, it is preferable to repair a headstone rather than remove it.
That wasnt always the case, especially in different cultures. For example, memorials were traditionally associated with burial in Christian and Jewish religions. Those who practice Islam traditionally believe in a humble passingone without headstones to mark the final resting spot of the deceased.
You need to use the pickaxe. Hammer is only used for backround walls, and slopes.
Yes. All monuments or memorials that are capable of being removed from the burial lots on which they are placed are considered to be the personal property of the lot owner and may be removed by the lot owner when the lot ceases to be used for the purposes of burial.
If a cemetery goes bankrupt, the old gravestones are sometimes removed and the land is sold. If youre buried in a religious cemetery, your plot is safe as long as the church remains to support the cemetery.
