one thing a lot of people dont realize is that if theyre going to put a lot of time and energy into any type of wood crafting projects at camp one important aspect to consider is removing the bark from the wood and timber that youre working with and its a two-fold reason when you cut down a tree and you leave the bark on two things happen number one its more prone to bugs bugs will get in between the bark and the wood and actually cause rot and decay between the two layers and thats going to over time break down your timber a lot quicker and ruin your project the second reason is very very similar its the fact that moisture is going to build up between the timber and the bark the inside of the bark and rot the wood away I know everybody thats spent any time in the woods has probably had both of these things happen to him number one you think of trees okay youre going downhill youre grabbing the tree breaks the bark was on everything else was fine the tree died that moisture g

If you do not own the Deed of Grant and place a grave marker on the site, the Registered Grave Owner is legally entitled to remove it or have it removed.
Mix just one-ounce of non-ionic detergent to 5 gallons of water. Apply: Use a brush to gently apply the cleaning solution. Always test the solution to ensure the best results after the area has dried. Scrub: With a soft-bristle brush, gently scrub the headstone in an orbital motion from bottom to top.
Algae, lichen, fungi -- that may be green, black, gray, yellow, red, orange, brown, or blue -- can be hazardous to gravestones because they trap moisture on (and under the surface of) the stone. They also secrete acids that can dissolve limestone, marble, sandstone, concrete, and mortar.
Headstones should only be removed under extreme circumstances, such as flooding, rapid deterioration caused by pollution, or increasing vandalism in the area.
Cleaning Lichen From Tombstones Lichen needs to be cleaned as soon as possible, or it will become harder to remove. Lichen can be removed by wetting the tombstone with distilled water and then scrubbing the affected area with a nylon brush. Harder to remove crustose lichen may require a specialized lichen cleaner.
If the headstone has a small amount of surface dirt on it, you should wash it down using water and a lint free cloth. Once youve washed the headstone, use a soft dry cloth to polish away any streaks left by the water. Any letters on the headstone should be lightly cleaned with a soft cloth and clean water only.
Soak the stone with water and wait a few minutes. Gently remove loose materials from the surface. Once saturated, the lichens and moss on the stone will loosen and can be removed easily with a plastic scraper or wooden spatula. This helps remove the big particles so you will not be rubbing them back into the stone.
Tips for cleaning headstones: Never use bleach, chemicals or oil based products on the stone. Use a soft scrub brush to help remove dirt or moss. A gentle cleaner like DAWN dishsoap along with lots of water will safely clean any type of headstone.
