Using Behavior Contracts can be a helpful strategy to increase the positive behaviors we all want our children to display. A home Behavior Contract is a written agreement between you and your child or your adolescent. The main parts of a Behavior Contract include the desired task or behavior, the agreed-upon rewards and consequences, and signatures from all parties involved. Contracts are proactive agreements made between parent and child. They state the expected behavior and also the consequence for violating the contract. Contracts may also state specific rewards for obedience. A contract is basically an agreement with your child.
For example, a goal may be stated in the contract that a student will participate in class activities by raising his hand and being called upon by the teacher before offering an answer or comment. Art, gym, or library instructors would then rate the students behaviors in these out-of-class settings and share these
Abstract. Behavioural contracting is an intervention technique in which a client signs an agreement to make certain behaviour changes within a specified time, usually with explicitly defined rewards for adherence or success.
Behavior contracts often include Who, What, When, and How well components. The Who specifies who will perform the task and receive the agreed upon reward. The What includes the task that the student must perform. The When emphasizes what time the task or behavior will be completed.
