In the state of California, it is required that you have a completed bill of sale before you register the vehicle. So youll need to bring a copy of your cars bill of sale to the DMV when you go. You will also need to have your bill of sale in order to have the title of the car transferred.
It May Be Illegal: For example, in Florida, you can only sell a car without a title if you are a licensed seller or dealer. In California, you will have to fill out an Application for Replacement or Transfer of Title before the purchase can be made.
If you dont have the California Certificate of Title, you need to use an Application for Replacement or Transfer of Title (REG 227) to transfer ownership. The lienholders release, if any, must be docHubd. The buyer should then bring the completed form to a DMV office and we will issue a new registration and title.
