Lets examine when its appropriate to omit a job from your resume. The job was short-term. It doesnt leave a big gap in job history. There were a lot of small contracts/projects. The company isnt in good standing. A previous job doesnt add unique skills or value.
Take a look at these 13 things you should take off or leave off of your resume. Age. Day-to-day tasks from previous jobs. Email address or phone number from your current employer. First and third person references. High School. Old jobs. Personal Information. Pictures.
If youve only been at your current job for a few months, you generally shouldnt include it on your resume. Leaving a job after a few weeks or even months is likely to raise red flags about why youre leaving so soon.
Employer Out of Business If your employer went out of business, you should still include the experience on your resume. Treat the position like any other job by demonstrating your accomplishments and contributions. If the position was recent, briefly explain the closure in your cover letter.
Most of the time, you shouldnt include a reason for leaving on your resume. Why not? Its not necessary. Recruiters dont expect to see it, which means they wont notice if its not there, but may wonder whats up if you include it anyway.
Do you need to include all the jobs youve ever had on your resume? Short answer: No, you dont. But be prepared to explain why an old job isnt listed on your resume if the prospective employer discovers it or asks about any employment gaps between the jobs you did list.
When to leave a short-term job off your resume You held the job for less than 6 months. You dont have any relevant accomplishments to list. The job was in a completely different role or industry.
If a given job lasted less than six months, you can leave it off of your resume. If a given job fits into your recent past, i.e. the past year or two, and it lasted six to 12 months, you must put the job description into your Work History section.
