A derogatory mark or remark in your credit report is a negative item, such as a late payment or foreclosure. If a derogatory mark is listed in your credit reports, it can hurt your credit scores and may affect your chances of qualifying for things like credit cards, loans and mortgages.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act dictates how long each type of derogatory remark stays on your credit report, and the general rule is that most derogatory marks stay there for seven years.
A consumer proposal is a legal agreement set up by a licensed insolvency trustee. The trustee creates a proposal for your creditors where they agree to let you pay off a percentage of your debt. Equifax removes a consumer proposal from your credit report 3 years after you pay off all the debts included in the proposal.
If the disputed account has negative information, the masking may increase your FICO score. But the disputed account may also have a positive score value; and, therefore, unmasking the the account by removing the dispute wording would increase your FICO score.
It just means there was some kind of change. This could be a closed account, late payment, new account opened, etc. Remarks are credit reports are essentially comments from those with whom you have credit. If, for example, you have student loans and miss a few payments, that might be noted as delinquency.
This could happen as a result of a dispute you filed directly with the credit bureau, or because your lender contacted the bureau to correct inaccurate prior reporting.
To remove disputes from a credit report (for free) you can contact whichever credit bureau is reporting the dispute. Experians phone number is 888-210-9101 and 866-673-0140 and its answered by a real-life human being. Just tell them you need the National Consumer Assistance Center to end the dispute(s).
And this is why This dispute comment takes the account out of being factored into the credit score, so if an account with a negative history gets its dispute remark removed, then the credit score may go down. On the other hand, credit scores may go up if the dispute comment is removed from a positive account.
