You must consider an injury or illness to meet the general recording criteria, and therefore to be recordable, if it results in any of the following: death, days away from work, restricted work or transfer to another job, medical treatment beyond first aid, or loss of consciousness.
Ideally, employees should report workplace injuries to their employers as soon as possible after the incident takes place. Workers compensation claim deadlines vary from state to state, but most states advise employees to report their injuries as soon as possiblea best practice no matter what the state.
Response: The administration of oxygen is considered medical treatment for OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping purposes. If an employee is symptomatic of a work-related injury or illness (e.g., respiratory distress from smoke inhalation) and is administered oxygen, the case is recordable.
If the employee is rendered unconscious for any length of time, no matter how brief, the case must be recorded on the OSHA 300 Log. The rule, requires the employer to record any work-related injury or illness resulting in a loss of consciousness.
Not Recordable If a case is limited to First Aid treatment AND there are no days away from work, job transfer, or job restriction, do not include the case on your OSHA 300 Log.
All employers are required to notify OSHA when an employee is killed on the job or suffers a work-related hospitalization, amputation, or loss of an eye. A fatality must be reported within 8 hours. An in-patient hospitalization, amputation, or eye loss must be reported within 24 hours.
What To Do If Someone Feels Faint In The Workplace? If someone within your workplace is feeling dizzy and faint, the first thing to do is to lie them down straight on their back and elevate their legs. This will help to improve blood flow to their brain.
Fainting is recordable under the Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) injury reporting rules, even if the loss-of-consciousness is due to a non-recordable injury incurred at work, the agency said in an interpretation letter to a West Virginia retailer.
