Checkboxes and radio buttons are elements for making selections. Checkboxes allow the user to choose items from a fixed number of alternatives, while radio buttons allow the user to choose exactly one item from a list of several predefined alternatives.
The only way to deselect the radio button is to move to another radio button in the same set and select it.
The spacebar is used to select and deselect those. ([Tab] is used to move the focus to the next checkbox and [Shift+Tab] to move the focus to the previous box.) The above are shortcuts on a standard Windows keyboard.
