An FCC license is required to operate GMRS system. Licenses are issued for a ten-year term and can be renewed between 90 days prior to the expiration date and up to the actual expiration date of the license. After a license expires, an individual must request a new GMRS license.
A strong name for your radio station is differentiated, it should stand out compared to other radio stations. Dont pick a common word in the name, choose another word to stand out. A strong radio station name is brief, so it is good to use four syllables or less.
First, go to the FCC CORES webpage. Set up an account in CORES by creating a username and password. You will then receive an automated email to verify your accounts email address and activate your account. Once your account is activated, log in to CORES, and select Register New FRN if you do not have an FRN.
So, how much does a GMRS license cost? The GMRS License fee will now be $35 instead of $70. Per the FCCs notice, the change will take effect April 19, 2022.
You can apply for a GMRS license online, or by filing FCC Form 605. The FCC sets license filing fees annually, and licenses are granted for 10 years.
How long does it take to receive my GMRS license? Most GMRS licenses are issued within 24 - 48 hour time frame. The FCC Licensing Support Center hours are 8:00 AM 6:00 PM EST, M F.
Applying for a GMRS license is easy, does not require any kind of test, and it takes only a few minutes. A license does cost $35, but covers your whole family and is good for 10 years.
