In Ubuntu, every file and directory is under the top-most directory, which is called the root directory. This directory is referenced by a single, leading forward slash (/). An absolute path points to the location of a directory in relation to this top-most directory.
Lets begin! Cat. This is the simplest and perhaps the most popular command to view a file in Linux. nl. The nl command is almost like the cat command. Less. Less command views the file one page at a time. Head. Head command is another way of viewing text file but with a slight difference. Tail.
One way to access your Windows files in Ubuntu is to use the built-in file manager. Simply open the file manager and look for the Other Locations section in the sidebar. From here, you should see your Windows drive listed. Click on it to access your Windows files and folders.
The ls command is used to list files or directories in Linux and other Unix-based operating systems. Just like you navigate in your File explorer or Finder with a GUI, the ls command allows you to list all files or directories in the current directory by default, and further interact with them via the command line.
Your activity on the web provides docHubly more data about you than your use of an OS. Ubuntu is a better choice than Windows for this in general. But, your choice of web browser, search engine, and social media that you use will make a much bigger difference.
To access your Linux files in Windows, open the Ubuntu terminal and type explorer.exe . (include the punctuation mark). This will open the linux directory in Windows Explorer, with the WSL prefix \wsl$\Ubuntu-18.04\home\your-username. Now, youll notice that Windows treats your Linux environment as a second network.
In the file manager, double-click any folder to view its contents, and double-click or middle-click any file to open it with the default application for that file. Middle-click a folder to open it in a new tab. You can also right-click a folder to open it in a new tab or new window.
