The redo log is a write ahead log of changes applied to contents of data pages. It provides durability for all changes applied to the pages. In case of crash, it is used to recover modifications to pages that were modified but have not been flushed to disk.
What Is the Redo Log? The most crucial structure for recovery operations is the redo log, which consists of two or more preallocated files that store all changes made to the database as they occur. Every instance of an Oracle Database has an associated redo log to protect the database in case of an instance failure.
Redo log is a physical log, which is a physical record after the data page is modified. Binlog is a logical log, which can be simply considered as a record of SQL statements.
The redo log is used by InnoDB during crash recovery and background flushing of transactions to the tablespaces. The redo log files have names like iblogfileN , where N is an integer. From MariaDB 10.5, there is only one redo log, so the file will always be named iblogfile0 .
You can disable redo logging using the ALTER INSTANCE DISABLE INNODB REDOLOG statement. This functionality is intended for loading data into a new MySQL instance. Disabling redo logging speeds up data loading by avoiding redo log writes and doublewrite buffering.
Redo is the information Oracle records in online (and archived) redo log files in order to replay your transaction in the event of a failure. Undo is the information Oracle records in the undo segments in order to reverse, or roll back, your transaction.
The redo log is a disk-based data structure used during crash recovery to correct data written by incomplete transactions. During normal operations, the redo log encodes requests to change table data that result from SQL statements or low-level API calls.
The default is 100MB. For example, you can change the Redo Log capacity to 200MB by using the following SQL statement: set global innodbredologcapacity=200*1024*1024; InnoDB creates 32 redo log files in MySQLs datadir inside a new dedicated folder: #innodbredo .
