Color-treated hair fades over time, and bleach blonde hair develops brassy tones as it oxidizes. Refresh your color with a toner every 6-8 weeks to keep that natural, healthy-looking blonde.
Tinted shampoos and conditioners, demi-permanent colors, and glosses can all be considered hair toners because they contain ingredients that adjust the color of your hair. You can even apply hair toner to targeted areas, such as highlights or roots, to change the shade.
While salon-level toners are best reserved for the pros, luckily you can now achieve similar results at home with a toning shampoo. Luckily there are a lot of amazing at-home toner products, says Papanikolas.
Wait at least 4 weeks after toning to give your hair time to heal. If your hair is dry or brittle, you should wait at least 7 to 8 weeks before toning it once again. Never use a second or subsequent toner on your hair within the same week to repair a poor colour result.
Theres no specific rule, but I generally advise waiting two days to let the initial toner settle before re-toning, because often color will shift slightly.
I would not reccomend that you tone it twice in one day with T-18. This is a harsher color as in it is not done with a 5 volume developer. You hair may grab the additional toner, giving you a drab color. It will also make your hair feel dry and unhealthy.
Youre going to want to wait for at least 7 to 8 weeks before you tone again or wait until your hair is back to its normal state however long that takes. To keep your hair as healthy as possible, do whatever you have to do to wait the appropriate amount of time before toning again.
Theres two reasons why your hair is still brassy after toning or colouring. Either the undertone of the toner/colour is wrong, or the product is too light for you.
