Maryland law requires you to return your license plates to the MVA when your vehicles insurance is cancelled, when you move out of Maryland, or when you no longer need the license plates.
You are required to register your vehicle within 60 days of moving to the state of Maryland.
You can renew your vehicle registration online. Please have your vehicle title and license plate numbers ready. Use only if the name, address, insurance and vehicle information printed on the registration renewal notice has not changed.
Maryland law requires you to return your license plates to the MVA when your vehicles insurance is cancelled, when you move out of Maryland, or when you no longer need the license plates. Under certain circumstances you may be eligible for a partial refund of your registration fee.
Your registration always expires on the last day of the month, unless you have 30 day temporary tags. On the upper right hand corner will be a white sticker. This is the year in which your registration expires. The average time for registration renewal at Motor Car Tag and Title is less than 5 minutes.
Maryland law requires that you must return your license plates and get an MVA receipt before you cancel your vehicle or trailers insurance. A fine of $150 for the first month and $7 per day may be imposed until the issue is resolved. And, under certain circumstances you may be eligible for a partial refund.
​You can apply for the substitute license plates and/or stickers h​ere. Or you may go to any of the MVAs full service branch offices. You can also mail your documents to the MVAs Mail In Registration Unit in the Glen Burnie office, or go to an MVA licensed tag and title service.
