Maximize Your Chances For Success You want to give yourself the best possible chance of doing well, so avoid repeating a class during a heavy quarter or during a time when you know youll be tackling several very difficult classes!
If you believe you will fail the class or get a low grade no matter what you do, it is usually better to drop it, because getting a C, D or F can docHubly hurt your GPA and usually looks worse to colleges than dropping a class does.
If you wish to increase your GPA, consider whether this is the best way to achieve that goal. Most students will find that when they repeat a course, there is only a small impact on their overall GPA. Another way to increase your GPA is to take additional courses and do well in them.
If you are enrolled in the school, simply ask the Registrar or your advising professor. They may allow you to retake it only with a D or F. There are courses, like Creative writing, which one may take multiple times even with B or A. If not, you need to register in the school.
Repeating Coursework The same is not true for Passed/Not Passed courses (see below). A course may be repeated only once. Although only the second grade earned (for better or worse) will be computed into your GPA, both grades will remain on your transcript.
