There isnt much sense in retaking a course for a mediocre grade doing so will raise your GPA even less. And if you do poorly on a course the second time you take it, you have reinforced the idea that you cant handle that material not at all what you want. So do yourself a favor and CRUSH any class you retake.
The grade earned (either higher or lower) when the class is retaken will be placed on the transcript and replace the original grade in the calculation of the GPA.
Once a course is repeated, only the higher grade earned is used to calculate the GPA. All courses remain on the students transcript. Department policies may require a student to repeat a major course if a grade is obtained that is less than the required minimum.
While students held back in lower grades levels are likely to earn their high school diploma, high school students that repeat a year have an increased likelihood of not completing high school.
Repeated courses The new grade earned will replace the deficient grade in the GPA calculation. UC does not average the grades. All coursework (original and repeats) must be reported on the admission application.
Retaking the class as soon as possible will put you in the best position to succeed. If the course isnt offered again for a year or more, consider whether retaking it is worth potentially forgetting any information you may already have about the subject.
Retaking the classes online and earning a higher grade will look better than a C on your transcript. Taking extra classes, so long as you can handle the increased rigor, will also help your application by boosting your weighted and unweighted GPA.
Colleges appreciate resilience and the capacity to overcome challenges. You might consider retaking the class to demonstrate your commitment to mastering the material.
