Redo log files are database-internal files and are located in the data area. They are used by the database system during a restart or a restore. Redo log files contain the redo log entries for all the transactions that were not completed at the last savepoint and which the system therefore needs to repeat.
Redo entries record data that you can use to reconstruct all changes made to the database, including the undo segments. Therefore, the redo log also protects rollback data.
The redo log buffer is an area of memory within the SGA that holds information about changes to the database, called redo log entries .
Redo log files are operating system files used by Oracle to maintain logs of all transactions performed against the database. The primary purpose of these log files is to allow Oracle to recover changes made to the database in the case of a failure.
UNDO is used to rollback transactions. REDO records changes to the original data, and is important for transactions that are not committed at the time of a crash or failure. REDO is used to roll forward transactions.
A redo record, also called a redo entry, holds a group of change vectors, each of which describes or represents a change made to a single block in the database.
