There may be cases when you have an existing feature service, either on ESRI ArcGIS online or on a local ArcGIS server and you simply want to append live updating values to that feature service. For example, for a user who has spent weeks drawing complicated pipeline layers in a feature service, it does not make sense to copy that geometry back into PI AF then publish it into a brand new feature service.
