In this video, well discuss the kinds of peer review comments that are most helpful to writers during the drafting process. ♫ [Upbeat music] Student writers often assume that peer review means proofreading for grammar and spelling errors. This approach can be helpful when the major goals of a writing project have already been achieved. When reviewing a first or second draft, however, writers benefit most from feedback that promotes revision. At its root, this word means to see again. As a peer reviewer, you can help writers see their own writing again from a different perspective and to explore possibilities for developing their ideas further. With this goal in mind, what kind of comments should you make? Here are two things to keep in mind: ♫ First, youll need to prioritize. Submitting a peer review in Canvas If your instructor includes a rubric, which is a pre-determined outline of how an assignment is graded, you must assign a grade using the rubric. However, your instructor may also ask you to leave a comment in the comment sidebar.
It may take up to one hour for Canvas to assign peer reviews. If a student has not submitted the assignment or submits the assignment after the due date, the student will not automatically be assigned a peer review and you must manually assign one.
Click the green arrow button from the Review column. This will open PeerMark. As soon as this button is clicked, this will delete your first peer submission. You must click the Submit button at the top of PeerMark to submit your review again.
By default, students always have the option to resubmit their Canvas assignments, even after the Due date. However if a student resubmits, they lose all access to any earlier submissions they have made including access to feedback the instructor may have provided.
Peer Editing / Review is an evaluative understanding level activity in which student judge the accuracy, credibility, value, etc. of the work of other students.
What does a good peer review look like? Start with a (very) brief summary of the paper. Next, give the Editor an overview of what you thought of the paper. The rest of your review should provide detailed comments about the manuscript. Remember that you have two audiences: the Editor and the authors.
The best way to structure your review is to: Open your review with the most important commentsa summarization of the research and your impression of the research. Make sure to include feedback on the strengths, as well as the weaknesses, of the manuscript. End the review with any additional remarks or suggestions.
Instructors can view all assignment submissions in SpeedGrader. Students will not be able to view their previous submissions after resubmitting unless you reupload the assignments to Canvas. Note: The option to resubmit an assignment may not be available for external tool assignments. Was this helpful?
