SQL Server Management Studio In Object Explorer, Expand the database that contains the table on which you want to reorganize an index. Expand the Tables folder. Expand the table on which you want to reorganize an index. Expand the Indexes folder. Right-click the index you want to reorganize and select Rebuild.
The syntax for rebuilding indexes is very simple, we just add the WITH ONLINE=ON clause to the ALTER INDEX command. Here are a couple of examples. The first rebuilds a single index on a table and the second rebuilds all the indexes on the table. You can read more on rebuilding indexes here.
REORGANIZE is a pure cleanup operation which leaves all system state as is. There are a number of differences. Basically, rebuilding is a total rebuild of an index - it will build a new index, then drop the existing one, whereas reorganising it will simply, well it will reorganise it.
Alter Index in PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server In PostgreSQL, ALTER INDEX command changes the definition of an existing index. Syntax: ALTER INDEX [ IF EXISTS ] name RENAME TO newname ALTER INDEX [ IF EXISTS ] name SET TABLESPACE tablespacename ALTER INDEX [ IF EXISTS ] name SET ( storageparameter = value [, ] )
Rebuilding an Index In Oracle, you can use the Alter Index Rebuild command to rebuild indexes. It rebuilds a spatial index or a specified partition of a partitioned index.
The primary XML index is a shredded and persisted representation of the XML BLOBs in the xml data type column. For each XML binary large object (BLOB) in the column, the index creates several rows of data. The number of rows in the index is approximately equal to the number of nodes in the XML binary large object.
To rebuild an index in Oracle, you can use the ALTER INDEX statement with the REBUILD option. For example, to rebuild an index named indexname on a table named tablename, you can execute the following command: ALTER INDEX indexname REBUILD; 2.
